Same-Sex Marriage

Marriage equality now ensures everyone has the same rights under Australian law and I’m excited to be able to marry the loving couples who’ve waited a long time for their happiness to be fully realised!

“Marriage according to law is the union of two people to the exclusion of all others voluntarily entered into for life.”

I’ve already conducted ceremonies for same-sex couples who made life-long commitments to one another… all those days were wonderful celebrations! Some couples now want to update their earlier ceremonies and celebrate the legal changes, even though they know nothing has changed in their hearts – other couples waited for the change in legislation.

There aren’t any “rules” for same-sex wedding ceremonies so start afresh with a new tradition or take those you love and maybe make a blend of old and new to celebrate your love your way!

The long history of marriage is interesting and it’s great that marriage has evolved again – as it always has.

So what’s new? Every person now has the option of calling themselves Bride, Groom or Partner regardless of gender.

If you’re a traditionalist nothing changes (apart from the wording of the Monitum), but if you’re someone who’s waited a long time for this change, perhaps your whole world has changed!
